About Me

I’m Salerno RL Salerno Martinez, LM, CPM—a Licensed Midwife in the State of Texas and a Certified Professional Midwife (NARM). I’m the first Deaf Licensed Midwife in the United States. I serve Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing families across North Texas, and I take only 3 families a month, so every family gets my full attention.

My Training

I trained through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) Portfolio Evaluation Process (PEP): hands-on clinical experience, academic study, and mentorship. I apprenticed under Jennifer Mozeke, BSM, LM, and Asia Jones, LM, CPM, of Always Birth Centered. I earned my CPM in October 2026, and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) issued my Licensed Midwife license in November 2026.

My Backup Midwife

My backup midwife is Asia Jones, LM, CPM, of Always Birth Centered—my preceptor and a trusted partner. If I’m ever at another birth when you need me, you’re in experienced hands.

What Midwifery Care Looks Like

I provide comprehensive, evidence-based care through pregnancy, birth, and the first six weeks after. I honor the physiological process of pregnancy and birth while helping you make informed decisions that fit your values. Prenatal visits are a full hour, at my home office in Fort Worth, with home visits at 36 weeks and 72 hours after birth.

I’m Deaf, and I communicate in ASL and written English. Many of my families are hearing and don’t sign.

We text, we write, and during visits and at your birth I use a captions app to read what you say. An ASL interpreter is always an option if your family would like one, arranged and paid for by your family. I do have a few that I highly recommend. Most families don’t need an interpreter for prenatal and postpartum visits, but many want one at the birth, and that’s completely understandable. Let’s chat through some options together.
